Avatar Sequels Cast Fear the Walking Dead Star
The Avatar sequels have cast a Fear the Walking Dead star in a leading role, alongside returning stars Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana.
When James Cameron's "Avatar" surprised everyone and managed to secure over $2.7 billion at the worldwide box office back in 2009, Fox wasted little time announcing a sequel to the film. Unfortunately, the sequel -- and the multiple films set to follow it -- continued to see setbacks, with the studio finally announcing new release dates for the next four movies late last month. With release dates finally set, casting is finally underway for the sequels, and the first new addition to the cast is none other than "Fear the Walking Dead" star Cliff Curtis.

According to Deadline, Curtis is set to star in the four sequels to "Avatar" as Tonowari, who is the leader of the Metkayina, the reef people clan. He'll be joining returning cast members Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington and Sigourney Weaver. As of right now, production is set to begin next year at Wellington’s Stone Street Studios.
Those worried about what this means for Curtis' character Travis Manawa on "Fear the Walking Dead," need not worry. Per the report, the "Avatar" sequels are expected to work around Curtis' filming schedule for the AMC drama.
The next installment in Cameron's franchise, “Avatar 2,” was initially slated for release in December 2016, with its follow-up to arrive in December 2018, but that was before Cameron’s franchise plans changed, and he ultimately settled on four more films. Along the way, the intended premiere of “Avatar 2” slipped first to 2017, then 2018 and now 2020.

The highest-grossing film of all time, Fox’s “Avatar” grossed nearly $2.8 billion worldwide, and was nominated for nine Academy Awards (it won three, for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects).
