An Animated Walking Dead Series It Hasnt Been Ruled Out

In light of the success of Invincible, creator Robert Kirkman is considering an animated version of his other hit comic: The Walking Dead.

In light of the success of the Invincible animated series and the live-action The Walking Dead series reaching its final season later this year, creator Robert Kirkman is considering the possibilities for an animated adaptation of The Walking Dead.

When asked in an interview with Inverse whether an animated Walking Dead was in the cards, Kirkman said, "I wouldn't rule it out. It would definitely be fun. I see the potential in doing that kind of thing, and I am really enjoying working in animation."

Even if an animated Walking Dead doesn't come to fruition, expect Kirkman to stay involved in animation. "I'm hoping to do some more animated stuff beyond Invincible, just because it seems to be a really fun working process and quite enjoyable," he said. "So who knows what the future holds."

Kirkman co-created the Invincible comic book series with Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley, with an animated adaptation currently airing on Amazon Prime Video, and recently stated that he sees the animated adaptation lasting several seasons beyond the original source material, which consisted of 144 issues published between 2003 and 2018.

The Walking Dead stars Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton and Cooper Andrews. Season 11 premieres Aug. 22 on AMC.

Invincible stars Steven Yeun, J.K. Simmons, Sandra Oh, Seth Rogen, Gillian Jacobs, Andrew Rannells, Zazie Beetz, Mark Hamill, Walton Goggins, Jason Mantzoukas, Mae Whitman, Chris Diamantopoulos, Melise, Kevin Michael Richardson, Khary Payton, Grey Griffin and Max Burkholder. The series is produced by Skybound, and executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Simon Racioppa, David Alpert and Catherine Winder. The first season is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
