Steven Yeun has broken his silence on the lasting impact of Glenn Rhee's death on The Walking Dead. Over the years, several cast members have come and gone. When it comes to the zombie apocalypse, anyone can go at any time, and we've seen that happen numerous times throughout the seasons. It's understandable for audiences to grow attached to characters who appear on one or two seasons, but when it's a character that has been on the show since the beginning, that grief is amplified.

Yeun was one of the original cast members of The Walking Dead and, therefore, became a core part of the overarching story arc. He made his debut in the series' second episode, 'Guts', though his voice can be heard over the radio in the series premiere, 'Days Gone Bye'. He was there since the very beginning, and that made his death in the seventh season's premiere episode, 'The Day Will Come When You Won't Be', all the more heartbreaking for fans.

The actor was at Walker Stalker Con in Nashville, Tennessee this weekend. On Sunday, Walker Stalker CEO James Frasier introduced Yeun onto the center stage, where the actor expressed his thoughts on Glenn's death, nearly one year after it happened (and over a year since they filmed the death). Here's what he told the audience:

Walking Dead Star on the Lasting Impact of Glenns Death

"It’s been over a year and everybody is still so cool. They’re so sweet and they’re very sad about the death but that’s awesome. I think the coolest part about the death in and of itself is, I don’t know if there’s ever been a character like Genn before in any facet, in the way he walks and the way he talks … to have died and to have in death such a lasting impact. I think it’s like awesome. I think if Glenn were to continue, he could at some point fade into the back but there’s this great explanation point."

Unlike many of the other deaths on The Walking Dead, people always knew there was a high chance Glenn would meet his ultimate fate at the hands of Negan (and his precious bat, Lucille). Although the series significantly deviates from the comics from time to time, there are moments that are taken straight from the source material, and Glenn's death was one of them. Unfortunately, he wasn't the only person to die that episode (or even last season); Michael Cudlitz's Abraham Ford was also killed by Negan in the season premiere episode.

Last season was almost entirely focused on building up the army to fight Negan, and that war officially began in the season finale episode, 'The First Day of the Rest of Your Life'. At this point, there isn't much that we know about the upcoming eighth season, except that the season premiere will feature "a ton of action" and that the entire season will be the best one yet, according to some of the cast members. We'll find out more as we get closer to San Diego Comic-Con next month.

The Walking Dead returns for season 8 this fall on AMC.
