These Walking Dead quotes demonstrate just how cool Eugene thinks he is.

The second half of AMC's hit zombie series The Walking Dead's Season 10 is close to debuting. After a six month hiatus, the show will return with the epic Whisperer War, a battle for supremacy between the militia and the Whisperers.

One of the main characters fighting on behalf of the militia is Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt), the highly intelligent chief engineer of the Sanctuary and one of Negan's closest confidants. Eugene is far more cunning than he lets on, often using his linguistic skills and gift of gab to sound much cooler than he actually is.

10 "A fully amped-up state and an ignorance of rapid-firing weapons." (Season 4, Episode 11)

During the 11th episode of Season 4, Carl and Michonne are tasked with finding supplies as Rick is accosted by a horde of violent pillagers. Elsewhere, Glenn and Tara join a trio of strangers (Eugene among them) for a crucial objective.

At one point during the episode, Abraham asks Eugene how he successfully destroyed a truck full of advancing enemies. Eugene calmly and coolly retorts by saying "A fully amped-up state and an ignorance of rapid-firing weapons."

9 "After I save the world, I still have to live with myself. I'm not leaving them behind." (Season 4, Episode 15)

In the penultimate chapter of Season 4, the mass pilgrimage to Terminus continues. Before many of the fractured survivor groups reunite at their destination, Glenn, Tara, and Eugene find Maggie's message near the Terminus signpost.

Upon fending off a gang of rabid walkers with the help of Maggie, Bob, and Sasha, Eugene makes the statement "After I save the world, I still have to live with myself. I'm not leaving them behind."

8 "That there is a videogame worth a pre-order." (Season 4, Episode 15)

Although opining about videogames hardly constitutes coolness, the way in which Eugene goes on a profanity-laced tirade while imagining zombie dinosaurs is far more exciting than his usual conversations.

Eugene states "he's a persistent son of a bitch, saving the world is just more important. I'm well aware it sounds bananas. But looking at the fossil record, knowing what I know about this infection, you cannot say for certain it isn't what killed the dinosaurs. Now, do I believe that's what happened? No. But it's enjoyable as hell to think about an undead ankylosaur going after a diplodocus. That there is a videogame worth a pre-order."

7 "All things being equal, it does sound pretty badass." (Season 5, Episode 1)

In the season five premiere episode, Rick Grimes and the gang still find themselves imprisoned in the box-car in Terminus. When Sahsa asks Eugene about the viral cure he's worked on in the past, he explains that he was part of a 10-person team of scientists who fought pathogenic microorganisms with other pathogenic microorganisms, a la fighting "fire with fire."

Eugene ends his rant by quipping, "All things being equal, it does sound pretty badass."

6 "The smartest man I ever met happened to love my hair." (Season 5, Episode 5)

Eugene spends as much time discussing his scientific contributions to the Human Genome Project as the other characters will let him. In Self Help, the fifth episode of Season 5, Eugene boasts about his complimentary hairdo.

While riding on the bus, Eugene beams "The smartest man I ever met happened to love my hair. My old boss, T. Brooks Ellis, the director of the Human Genome Project. He said my hair made me look like, and I quote 'a fun guy,' which I am."

5 "And hell, this is a story people are gonna tell." (Season 6, Episode 9)

With a 9.7/10 IMDB-rating, No Way Out is the highest-rated episode of The Walking Dead Season 6. Much of the plot concerns Abraham, Daryl, and Sasha going toe-to-toe with the Saviors while Rick and the gang advance through a herd of walkers.

When Rosita finds herself in a perilous position, Eugene approaches her from the rear and says "right behind you." Rosita says "Eugene, you don't have to." Eugene proudly and coolly responds by saying "That's incorrect. I do. No one gets to clock out today. And hell, this is a story people are gonna tell."

4 "I've changed, adapted, I'm a survivor." (Season 6, Episode 14)

The antepenultimate episode of Season 6 finds the gang suffering from a dwindling medical supply. As Daryl Dixon and Rosita set off to find reinforcements, Eugene tries to win over Abraham with his survival skills.

At one point during the episode, Eugene launches into a full-throated screed by saying "the key to survival is allowing oneself to be shaped by the assigned environment. In doing so, a broad range of capabilities are acquired, allowing one to flip the script and use said capabilities to shape said environment for maximum longevity. I'm saying I'm in the process of said stage two. I've changed, adapted, I'm a survivor."

One of the running gags in the show is much of Eugene thinks of his glorious mullet hairdo. He makes mention of it in several episodes, even telling Seth that he "fully respects the hair game" earlier in Season 6. But in episode 14, he takes it to the extreme.

While casing the bullet factory, Abraham asks Eugene about tying his hair back. Eugene confidently boasts that "I very well may miss it...the feeling of the billowy curtain catching the breeze some days was straight-up bliss. But brass tacks: the hair doesn't make the man, the man makes the man."

In the Season 6 finale, Eugene brims with newfound self-belief after undergoing weapons training. When he's allowed to join the resistance against the Saviors and assist Maggie with medical supplies, he makes an impassioned plea to Rick.

Before joining the RV Hilltop mission, Eugene tells Rick "I know I can be of some help. Now's the time and here's the place. Don't shine me. I'll be your anchorman, yes, I damn will." Although peppered with his gauche humor, Eugene shows he's more than a cowardly bystander.

In the Seventh episode of Season 8, Time for After, Negan is forced to recruit a bevy of lieutenants to help with the escalating problem at the Sanctuary. At one point, Eugene and Gabriel are cordoned by an army of walkers.

When Gabriel tells Eugene "all I want for you is to do the right thing" in regards to protecting the others, Eugene rebuts by saying "and what is said definition on that? Can't say I ever sussed it out. Right for some can be downright horrific for others, and knowing that has kept me vertical when so many have gone horizontal."
