More Walking Dead Spinoffs Reportedly In the Works

AMC's The Walking Dead is set to explore the possibility of even more spinoff shows revolving around Robert Kirkman's zombie apocalypse.

More Walking Dead Spinoffs Reportedly In the Works

The Walking Dead has been a pop-culture phenomenon since debuting in 2010. With Season 8 in full swing, despite fluctuating ratings, it still remains one of the most talked about shows on air. Now, it appears that AMC wants to keep the ball rolling regarding the zombie-apocalypse that Robert Kirkman first created for Image Comics by developing various spinoff TV projects.

“There are different approaches to how we tell stories and how long we tell them for and the places we can do them. I’m hoping to do a variety of different projects that are probably more in line with what we see on TV but maybe in different rhythms and formats and things like that," EP Scott Gimple said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

"We’ll still continue to come out with great digital content but I’m excited about the kind of stuff we can do. But I really am talking about all sides of it and I know we’ll have more to talk about soon on that," he added. Gimple has moved from being showrunner to the franchise's chief content officer, and is clearly looking at following the mold of Fear The Walking Dead, which focuses on another corner of The Walking Dead's universe in the USA.

Given that the outbreak is global, Gimple could even focus on other countries and how they're handling the zombies. With Morgan (Lennie James) crossing over from The Walking Dead to Fear The Walking Dead, there's similar potential for other characters, say Norman Reedus' Daryl Dixon, to even move out and star in their own spinoff series. Then again, the show could even go the origins routes, as The Walking Dead did start with the zombie outbreak already in full swing. Either way, Gimple knows that he has a myriad of directions to bite into.

Airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC, The Walking Dead stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Lauren Cohan as Maggie Rhee, Danai Gurira as Michonne, Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier, Lennie James as Morgan Jones, Alanna Masterson as Tara Chambler, Josh McDermitt as Eugene Porter, Christian Serratos as Rosita Espinosa and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan.

I'm a former Chemical Engineer. It was boring so I decided to write about things I love. On the geek side of things, I write about comics, cartoons, video games, television, movies and basically, all things nerdy. I also write about music in terms of punk, indie, hardcore and emo because well, they rock! If you're bored by now, then you also don't want to hear that I write for ESPN on the PR side of things. And yes, I've written sports for them too! Not bad for someone from the Caribbean, eh? To top all this off, I've scribed short films and documentaries, conceptualizing stories and scripts from a human interest and social justice perspective. Business-wise, I make big cheddar (not really) as a copywriter and digital strategist working with some of the top brands in the Latin America region. In closing, let me remind you that the geek shall inherit the Earth. Oh, FYI, I'd love to write the Gargoyles movie for Disney. YOLO. That said, I'm on Twitter @RenaldoMatadeen. So holler.
