Jeffrey Dean Morgan Shares First Photo of His Sons Walking Dead Debut KEEP READING The Walking Dead Negan Was Lucille’s First Victim

The Walking Dead's Jeffrey Dean Morgan shared the first photo of his son's appearance as a walker in the upcoming final season of the hit AMC show.

The actor, who portrays Negan in the series, posted a black-and-white photo of his and Hilarie Burton's 11-year-old son Gus in full walker makeup to his Instagram account.

Morgan captioned the photo, "My kid. Just a peek... As a dad, I have to say, I'd be hard-pressed to remember a time I've been more proud of this dude. Can't wait for y'all to see him in action." The actor also added the hashtags "#GusyDean" and "#Zombielife."

The photo of Gus was posted days after Morgan teased his son's appearance on The Walking Dead during an interview with Conan O'Brien. "He actually works tomorrow. We're very excited," Morgan told O'Brien. "You know one of the other things is that he's playing a child walker which, if you've watched the show, I think we've had like one or two of them in 10 years. It just doesn't happen. So there's something very special about that."

Morgan also joked that filming new episodes of the zombie show has become somewhat of a "family business," following a recent Walking Dead arc that starred his real-life wife Burton as Negan's wife-turned-walker, Lucille.

"One of the things about the COVID of it all is that this year we're only using like, say 20 zombies," Morgan shared. "We've hired them full-time, for the full year, and so they're a different zombie every episode. Maybe more than one zombie. And so Gus is also tested. He's tested along with the rest of the family and so we know that he's good to go."

The actor added, "So he's 11 and he gets to be on The Walking Dead in the final season. And it's super, super exciting. We've very pumped about it." When O'Brien pointed out the irony of Gus being tested for COVID-19 to be cleared to portray a character that's succumbed to a brutal virus, Morgan remarked, "It's so fucking meta."

The Walking Dead stars Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton and Cooper Andrews. Season 11 premieres Aug. 22 on AMC.
