Fear the Walking Deads Next Episode Homages Dawn of the Dead
The opening to the upcoming episode of Fear the Walking Dead directly homages the classic zombie film Dawn of the Dead.
One of the most influential, acclaimed horror films in the zombie sub-genre is George A. Romero's 1978 classic Dawn of the Dead and the next episode of Fear the Walking Dead contains a direct homage.
AMC has released the first five minutes to the upcoming tenth episode of Season 5, titled "210 Words Per Minute," showing Morgan, Grace and Dwight entering an abandoned shopping mall. Responding to a radio call to a mysterious figure named Chuck, the trio find a backroom with plenty of visual callbacks to the 1979 film and its 2004 remake, written by James Gunn and directed by Zack Snyder, which shared a similar setting.
Navigating the mall to carry out Chuck's final request, the team finds the building teeming with walkers while exploring the remnants of the old world while Morgan learns Grace has an unusual name for jelly beans.
As the series moves deeper into the second half of Season 5, the spinoff series' connections to the main show are gradually becoming more evident, especially considering the actors who've moved from one show to the other.
Airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC, Fear the Walking Dead stars Lennie James, Colman Domingo, Alexa Nisenson, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Garret Dillahunt, Jenna Elfman, Austin Amelio and Karen David.
