Fear The Walking Dead Season 5 Gets A Midseason Trailer At SDCC

The survivors of the zombie apocalypse were present and accounted for at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, as AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead shared a brand new trailer for the second half of season 5. The Walking Dead spinoff has undergone plenty of changes since it first premiered back in 2015. Most of those changes have had to do with the show’s original cast, which has almost completely been replaced by, a mix of newcomers and transplants from the original series, like Lennie James’s Morgan and most recently, Austin Amelio’s Dwight, who joined the show in season 5.

Other changes have come in the form of a pair of new showrunner, Ian Goldberg and Andrew Chambliss, who took over for series co-creator Dave Erickson with season 4. But while the zombie series has seen cast and crew come and go for the better part of five seasons now, perhaps the biggest change to the series has been the direction that’s been undertaken with Morgan serving as the de facto leader of the core group of survivors. That direction has been to seek out those in need of help and to offer them a hand, even at the expense of their personal safety. So far, that has put the survivors on a collision course with some folks set on getting what they can for themselves, like Matt Frewer’s Logan, which has created some familiar Walking Dead-style conflicts.

There’s been more in season 5, like radioactive zombies and another mysterious group of survivors whose ways don’t quite mesh with Morgan’s. All of it has added up to an interesting season so far, one that will return in the early part of August. As for what viewers can expect, well, AMC just shared a new trailer touting Fear the Walking Dead’s return, which can be seen below:

The trailer itself offers up a good look at some of what’s to come in the second half of season 5, but it mostly focuses on the survivors themselves and what a unique group of characters they have become. Much of that is due to the video “shot by” Althea (Maggie Grace) in her ongoing effort to document the presumed end of civilization, should another one rise from its ashes. The result is an oddly charming look at the day-to-day lives of some survivors, set to the tune of ‘I’d Really Like to See You Tonight’ by England Dan & John Ford Coley.

Unexpected musical cue aside, the trailer only plays cute for so long before it reverts back to threats from would-be villains and the ever-present fear of the undead, as made evident by some frightening hordes of zombies. If nothing else, the new trailer suggests that Fear the Walking Dead isn’t about to slow down in the second half of season 5.
