Fear The Walking Dead 10 Ways The Show Transformed Into A Worthy Spin Off

Fear The Walking Dead 10 Ways The Show Transformed Into A Worthy Spin Off

While Fear the Walking Dead didn't have the best of starts, it has made many changes and improvements over the course of its many seasons.

After a rocky start, The Walking Dead's spin-off show has really stepped its game up and now has all the ingredients to confidently walk alone. With new stars perfectly complimenting the old, and fresh, exciting plotlines, Fear The Walking Dead is most certainly worthy of any walker fan's time.

Instead of offering a re-tread of the original series, Fear has gone to great lengths to separate itself with its storylines, themes, and characters, even if this meant bringing some personas over from AMC's original post-apocalyptic adventure. With the seventh season set to start, it's the perfect time for anyone on the fence to jump in and give Fear The Walking Dead a try.

10 Fear Has Fully Embraced The Western Genre

Fear The Walking Dead's wholehearted hugging of the Western genre goes far deeper than just cowboy hats and horseback riding, the show has taken influence from some of the genre's greats, and it's clear to see within the characters, plotlines, imagery, and even the immersive soundtrack.

Fear has also brought in multiple talents fans of HBO's cowboy classic Deadwood will be very familiar with, including a man with many ties to the Western genre - screen legend Keith Carradine.

9 A Soft Reboot Worked Wonders For The Show And Its Characters

Many of the Western tropes seen in Fear The Walking Dead came along after the show's soft reboot at the beginning of Season 4. As well as the arrival of multiple new main characters, the series managed to continue the stories of those personas that fans had grown attached to.

The creators also boldly killed off one (quite possibly two) of Fear's central figures, and, though this didn't sit well with some fans who had been watching since its inception, the deaths certainly raised the stakes for every survivor and added a level of tension that's sometimes lacking in the original series when it comes to main character deaths.

8 It Offers A Closer Look At The Three Rings Mystery

Helicopters have long been a source of mystery in The Walking Dead universe, and this fact was ramped up significantly with the disappearance of Rick Grimes in The Walking Dead's ninth season.

Fans still await answers behind the three rings and the elusive Civic Republic Military, but Fear The Walking Dead offers some incredibly intriguing insight into the mystifying group and one of its members.

7 John And June's Love Story Is Arguably Better Than Any Seen In The Walking Dead

In the entire Walking Dead universe, there's no character more loved than Daryl Dixon, but once Garret Dillahunt arrived in Fear and brought the captivating, comedic, and admirably honorable John Dorie to life, the little Dixon brother had a serious rival when it came to being a fan favorite.

One of the things that makes Mr. Dorie so lovable is his relationship with Jenna Elfman's June. Their romance is one of the best that any TV thriller has seen in recent times, and this heartwarming love story alone makes Fear The Walking Dead worth a watch for any fan of the original show.

6 Fear Has Gained Some Of The Walking Dead's Most Fascinating Characters

Fear's first few seasons were often hit and miss and failed to really capture the magic of the Andrew Lincoln-led counterpart. AMC then made the brave yet wise move of bringing characters over from The Walking Dead, giving fans of the original show an undeniable reason to tune in.

Making Morgan the main character certainly helped, but cameos from Rick, Carol, and Jesus also set Fear on the right path. Dwight and Sherry would follow and become series regulars, giving fans a welcome second look at one of the Saviors War's most tragic couples.

5 It Has Consistently Managed To Raise The Stakes

Whilst some viewers may not have been the biggest fans of Season 6's nuclear bomb angle, it certainly raised the stakes by putting every character in jeopardy in a way that the original show has rarely accomplished.

Fear's survivors no longer felt safe, and by showing they weren't afraid to kill off main characters in Seasons 4 and 5, the creators of the show really amped things up when it came to tension, anxiety, and overall dread.

4 The Series Has Added A Selection Of Established Stars

Big names can often equal big ratings, but Fear The Walking Dead's famous additions to its cast since Season 4 have provided the show with some incredible talent to utilize in their undead adventures.

Garret Dillahunt, Maggie Grace, Jenna Elfman, the aforementioned Keith Carradine, Nick Stahl, and John Glover are all immediately recognizable faces and have added some serious legitimacy to the spin-off.

3 Fear Offers Up A Different Kind Of Villain

A recurring criticism of AMC's original zombie show has been new villains feeling all too familiar, homicidal madmen with a tyrannical reign over a group of survivors, and their exercise of control often involving murdering people in the most brutal manner.

The Governor fed people to walkers, Negan burned men alive, and Pope then came along and did the exact same thing. Fear The Walking Dead hasn't always hit home runs when it comes to its baddies, but it has to be said that the show's creators have gone to great lengths to offer up a different kind of evil, one that often lies more in the middle of the morality scale.

2 The Group Has A Strong Focus On Helping People

Polar Bear's quest to assist the downtrodden in the post-apocalyptic world was not only admirable but felt refreshing after all the horror fans had witnessed in The Walking Dead and Fear's first few seasons.

The group adopting his plan, then risking their lives to help those in need gave them a welcome contrast to Rick and co. It may have been naive on their part in hindsight, yet good people trying to survive in a bad world always makes for good TV.

1 Fear The Walking Dead Has Become The Morgan Jones Show

He's one of The Walking Dead's original characters, appearing early in both the comics and AMC's media monster. Morgan Jones was already one of the most fascinating personas in the undead universe, yet with his arrival on the West coast, the talented stick fighter has gone from strength to strength and has greatly enhanced the show as a result.

For a long time, The Walking Dead was the Rick Grimes show, it was his story after all. With Morgan leading a group of his own into the unknown territory of post-apocalyptic America, Fear The Walking Dead can now quite reasonably be dubbed the Morgan Jones show, and it's all the better for it.
