When it comes to The Walking Dead, it seems like there are no limits and no rules when it comes to creating terrifying villains that do things that no sane human being would ever even want to think about. The Governor, Terminus, the Saviors, and now the Whisperers. But surprisingly the show has also been able to consistently create new and horrifying antagonists that still feel like something we have never seen in the TWD world before.

The Whisperers are the current threat to the main group of the series, but the real danger from the Whisperers has clearly always been the group's leader, Alpha. Alpha is a cruel, violent, nihilistic person who only allows those who are useful to her to live, and who seems to sincerely believe that anyone who doesn't adhere to her life philosophy deserves to die. And although Alpha is still quite an enigma, here are 10 things everyone needs to know about her.

10 She Doesn't Take Disagreement Kindly

It seems somewhat safe to say that Alpha isn't going to be murdering any of the main cast members of The Walking Dead any time soon. However, she seems to have a lot of issues with people going against what she thinks, believes, or decides.

Or I guess depending on your perspective, she has no issues with it at all, because it seems like the moment someone disagrees with her she just straight up kills them. She has already murdered her followers for going against her wishes, and she even killed her own husband when he went against her decision and tried to save some survivors.

9 She's A Domestic Abuser

Alpha's behavior in The Walking Dead has been extreme, even among all of the extremists that the audience has seen throughout the show's 10 seasons, but looking at her characterization as a whole it's easy to see why she devolved into such a monster so quickly.

Lydia initially tells her backstory as if her father is the one who was the abuser in her family until it's revealed that Alpha is, in fact, the one who has been abusing her family the entire time. And Alpha's abusive mindset is very clearly reflected in the way that she handles her group.

8 Survival Of The Fittest Is Her Way

In a dark sense, Alpha isn't exactly wrong in her belief that only the fittest can survive in this new world. However, she takes that philosophy to it's most intense and insane extremes. Alpha doesn't even necessarily have any respect for those who have survived for this long, and an individual's fitness to live in this new world seems to be completely dependent on her own assessment of them.

And unsurprisingly, their fitness seems to rely almost completely on their willingness to follow her, despite the fact that being one of her followers certainly does not guarantee that she won't kill them at the first sign of weakness.

7 She Loves Her Daughter

Unfortunately for Lydia, it seems that her mother genuinely does love her. Despite being an abusive monster towards her for her entire life, even prior to the zombie apocalypse. Alpha's emotions seem to vacillate between pure cruelty and rage to near nonexistence, but her attachment to Lydia is something that she can't, or won't, let go of.

It's actually fairly common for abusive parents to love their children as possessions and extensions of themselves despite treating them horribly. The fact that Alpha has even for a moment risked her place as the leader of her group for Lydia's sake says a lot.

6 She's A Charismatic Leader

One of the more mystifying aspects of Alpha's entire group is why so many people seem to follow her. She has a lot of serious sociopathic tendencies. The life she and her group leads is incredibly unforgiving and leaves little to look forward to, and she will eliminate a member of her squad the moment they step out of line.

In short, there aren't a lot of reasons why people would follow her besides the opportunity of the most basic, miserable survival imaginable. But the one thing that Alpha seems to have on her side is her charisma, as she almost seems to have a cult leader-like quality.

5 She's Learned From Experience

Alpha's cruelty and severe leadership are a bit shocking because even the psychotic leaders that have graced The Walking Dead before had some desire to maintain a normal life. Or at the very least saw the value of maintaining a normal life in order to get normal people to actually follow you.

But Alpha's behavior and leadership style didn't evolve in a vacuum and didn't happen overnight. She was certainly ready and willing to do what most normal people wouldn't in order to survive, but the real changes happened when she saw so many communities crumble under their need to maintain some semblance of old world reality.

4 She's A Fan Of Guerrilla Warfare

Although Alpha blusters and bloviates about her willingness to go full scorched earth on the entire group of communities that she currently sees as her rivals, her actual behavior and fighting style doesn't seem to back that up very much.

She certainly does go after them, but her preferred method for destruction seems to be smaller and less aggressive attacks that consistently weaken her adversaries. However, that is just what we have all seen of Alpha and the Whisperers so far. It is entirely possible that once she believes that the group is weak enough then she will take her massive horde and finish them off for good.

3 She Doesn't Seem To Have A Great Grasp Of Science

Alpha makes a lot of noise about abiding by a life philosophy that relies on natural selection and survival of the fittest, but she doesn't seem to have a full grasp of what those things actually mean.

Survival of the fittest quite literally means the ability to stay alive in your own environment, so technically everyone that is still alive should fit under her umbrella of survivors that are worthy of life. And when she told one of her followers to abandon her baby she claimed that it was because natural selection deemed it so, despite the fact that babies crying is quite obviously a survival mechanism itself.

2 She Kills Her Competition

Despite the fact that Alpha speaks a lot on the idea that only the strongest left in the world should survive, she has a nasty habit of killing off a lot of strong people if those people threaten her position as the leader of the group.

It's not an entirely unsurprising move, however a lot of what she says seems to contradict what she does, and this is one of the most glaring examples. She clearly believes that she is the strongest person in the world, but those who could threaten her are usually eliminated before they have half a chance to unseat her from her position.

1 She's An Animal

And she loves it. Alpha has let go of nearly everything from her life in the old world, with the notable exception of Lydia, and she seems to be more than happy to have done so.

Obviously she has taken on the mantle of "Alpha" as a symbol as the leader of her very own wolf pack, and she seems to have great disregard for everything that the humanity that existed before the apocalypse seems to represent. And it'd be interesting to know if so many of these communities that she saw fall were actually collapsed because of things that she did to undermine them.
