Is Jon Bernthals Shane Returning to The Walking Dead

A familiar face from the early seasons of The Walking Dead could be making a return to the Image Comics-based AMC horror series.

Is Jon Bernthals Shane Returning to The Walking Dead

Jon Bernthal's Shane was The Walking Dead's first primary villain. He took up with Rick's wife Lori while Rick was presumed dead, and his jealousy got the better of him when his former BFF woke from his coma and found his way back to his family. Shane was also one of the show's first major deaths, getting stabbed in the chest by Rick, whom he'd intended to murder. His death was immediately finalized by Carl who'd witnessed the confrontation and shot Shane's zombie in the head.

So what's Jon Bernthal doing hanging out with his former co-stars Norman Reedus and Andrew Lincoln? basicgirlautumn on Instagram shared this photo of herself with Reedus and Lincoln in a cafe with a bald Jon Bernthal in the background (it's him). Could Shane be returning?

Well, yeah, and it wouldn't be the first time. Jon Bernthal reprised his role as Shane in Season 4 via hallucination during the battle at Woodbury. Rick sees him shooting Oscar and then gets to kill Shane again before realizing it was just another Woodbury soldier.

Filming on Season 9 started at the beginning of May, and given Andrew Lincoln's announcement that this season would be his last, it stands to reason that the noticeably bald Jon Bernthal has returned to Atlanta to film a flashback or appear once again as a chimera. After all, Rick's exit from the show he's anchored for the past eight years is bound to be fraught with demons from the past, and since Shane is absolutely one of those, it's not surprising he'd resurface in some fashion. And frankly, that idea has us wondering who else might be planning a visit... #bringbackDenise

The Walking Dead airs on AMC and is currently in production on its ninth season. It stars Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes, Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon, Lauren Cohan as Maggie Rhee, Danai Gurira as Michonne, Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier, Lennie James as Morgan Jones, Alanna Masterson as Tara Chambler, Josh McDermitt as Eugene Porter, Christian Serratos as Rosita Espinosa and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan.
