As controversial as the Season 6 finale proved to be with "Walking Dead" fans, showrunner Scott Gimple promises it was never the intent to "f-- with" viewers.

"We never intend to f- with people," Gimple said of the hotly-debated manner in which the series introduced mega-villain Negan following a recent screening of the finale. "You all just saw the episode, and I want to go on record and say we were not trying to f- with you."

Gimple explained that while the show's writers do look to the source material for guidance and inspiration, they may approach things in different ways than Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard do in the Image Comics series. "It is the story from the book," Gimple stated, "but we are doing it in different ways."
