Danai Gurira Reveals How Walking Dead Recreated [SPOILER]s Gruesome Death

Danai Gurira shed light on her exit from The Walking Dead, explaining how Season 10 recreated one of the show's most iconic death scenes.

The Walking Dead's Danai Gurira has opened up about her final episode, revealing how AMC's zombie series recreated Glenn's iconic baseball bat scene from the Season 7 premiere.

"They had these fantastic doubles who were there, and they did a great job," Gurira told EW. "And then good old imagination. They put down people there who were dressed as close to the actual people as they could be. And then I connected to them," added Gurira. "I mean, there was a part that we didn't end up using where I was in Carl's face quite a bit. Really awful, but it didn't make the cut. I don't know how these things happen. But there was a double playing Carl, that was very dark. But, that exchange as well, for her to see that. We know how much Michonne loved Carl, but the underbelly of that. And if that hadn't gone that way. Basically, we recreated the lineup. Of course, [Jeffrey Dean Morgan] was there, and we created the lineup with the doubles and worked it that way, including a double of Michonne."

Season 10's "What We Become" saw Virgil slip hallucinogens into Michonne's food, causing her to envision an alternate reality where she joined the Saviors. In this version, Michonne ended up murdering Steven Yeun's Glenn during Season 6's assault on the Savior compound, meaning someone else had to take his place in Negan's brutal baseball bat lineup.

Just like the cliffhanger of Season 6, fans didn't get to find out who Michonne battered to death with Negan's wire-wrapped baseball bat. However, there was an equally out-there moment when it looked like Savior Michonne was going to kill her Alexandrian self. Ultimately, Savior Michonne met her maker when Norman Reedus' Daryl caught up with her and shot her with a crossbow after she'd bashed someone's brains in with Lucille.
